In most cases, we request a Social Security Number (SSN) for identity verification purposes during the underwriting process.
However, an SSN is not always required.
Alternative Identification Options
If you do not have an SSN, an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) may be accepted.
The availability of alternative identification methods depends on your business structure, ownership, processing requirements, and underwriting review.
Businesses Owned by Non-U.S. Residents
Businesses owned by non-U.S. residents may still be eligible for a merchant account.
In some cases, if the beneficial owners do not have an SSN or ITIN, the business may be required to have at least one U.S.-based director, officer, or authorized representative with a valid SSN who can be verified during the underwriting process.
Additional Verification
Depending on your application, we may request additional documentation, including:
- Government-issued identification
- Proof of address
- Business formation documents
- Banking documentation
- Ownership verification documents
Our underwriting team will review each application individually and advise if additional information is required.
If you are unsure whether your business qualifies, please contact our sales team before submitting your application.
